Stress has become an everyday part of modern life. From work pressures and cost of living worries to the constant pace of digital life, many people are searching for ways to slow down and find calm.
To understand how people in the UK are trying to manage stress, Little Box of Mindfulness analysed Google search data to identify the stress-relief activities people search for the most.
The results show that breathing exercises and mindfulness practices dominate the list, suggesting that many people are turning to simple techniques that can be practised at home to help manage stress and anxiety.

“What this data shows is that people are increasingly turning to simple, practical techniques to manage stress. Breathing exercises and small mindfulness practices are popular because they are accessible and can be done anywhere.”
Three Key Takeaways from the Data
Breathing Techniques Lead the Search Trends

Breathing exercises appear multiple times in the ranking, including the popular 4-7-8 breathing technique, which tops the list with nearly 15,000 searches per month.
Breathing techniques are often recommended as a quick way to calm the nervous system and regulate the body’s stress response. Their strong presence in the search data suggests many people are looking for simple tools to manage anxiety and overwhelm in everyday life.
Mindfulness Continues to Grow in Popularity

Mindfulness also features prominently in the ranking. Searches for daily mindfulness activities and mindfulness exercises for adults attract thousands of searches every month.
For many people, small daily rituals, calming practices and thoughtful mindfulness gifts can all play a part in creating moments of calm.
Mindfulness practices encourage people to focus on the present moment and can help reduce rumination and mental overload. Short, accessible exercises are particularly popular, with searches for 5-minute mindfulness exercises showing that many people are looking for small ways to bring calm into their day.
Movement and Relaxation Practices

Movement-based approaches also appear in the data. Activities such as Hatha yoga and gym-based stress relief exercises suggest that many people turn to physical activity as a way to release tension and improve wellbeing.
These practices combine movement with relaxation and breathing, making them popular choices for those looking to manage stress in a healthy and proactive way.
Methodology
This analysis was conducted by The Little Box of Mindfulness using UK search data from Google Keyword Planner. Keywords relating to stress relief, mindfulness and relaxation techniques were analysed to identify the most searched stress-relief activities in the United Kingdom.
Average monthly search volumes were based on Google search data from the last 12 months (March 2025 – February 2026).
At The Little Box of Mindfulness, we’re interested in the small, practical ways people try to reduce stress and feel more grounded.
