Pals in Your Pocket: Small Gifts That Offer Real Comfort

You're Fab - Pal In Your Pocket

When I choose products for The Little Box of Mindfulness, I am not just looking at what something looks like or whether it fits neatly into a category. I am interested in the story behind it, the intention that shaped it, and whether it genuinely fits with the kind of support I want The Little Box of Mindfulness to offer.

Pals in Your Pocket began in May 2020, during the first UK lockdown. Steph, Andie and Reiss (Mum and her two children), started hand-painting small pebbles with a simple but thoughtful idea in mind, that carrying something small and physical could offer reassurance during the first UK lockdown, when many people were separated from family, routines and a sense of normal life. The idea was simple. If you carried a pebble in your pocket, you carried something tangible that reminded you that you were not alone.

What began as a family project quickly took on a wider purpose. Their initial aim was to raise money for NHS Charities Together in recognition of the extraordinary pressure placed on doctors and nurses during the pandemic. From there, the idea continued to grow, supporting individuals, schools and community groups, while still remaining rooted in that original intention of connection and kindness.

Each pebble is individually hand painted, which means no two are ever the same. Many are paired with a simple message:

“Feeling sad or having a happy day?
I am with you every step of the way.”

I chose to curate Pals in Your Pocket because they fit with how I think about support. I am not interested in dramatic claims or inflated mental health language. I value simple, tangible tools that people can use in their own way.

In some mindfulness practices, small objects are used as anchors for attention. Holding something solid and noticing its weight or texture can help shift your focus out of your head and into your body. The pebble does not change anything by itself, but it can give you something steady to concentrate on when you feel unsettled, distracted or just in need of a pause.

That is where pieces like Puppy of Positivity or Bear Hug can quietly support someone through a difficult moment, offering a small, physical reminder of comfort. Others may find something like A Little Deep Breath or You’ve Fab helpful during moments of overwhelm, while more playful designs like Wobble can bring a lighter sense of reassurance when it’s needed most.

I have introduced a small selection to begin with. If they resonate with people, I will expand the range over time. For now, I invite you to explore the collection and see whether one feels right for you or someone you care about.
